Welcome to Reading Buddhist Priory
The Priory was founded in 1990 as a temple of the Serene Reflection (Soto Zen) tradition of Buddhism. It is part of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. (www.obcon.org)
At the core of this tradition is the practice of zazen, just sitting meditation, which can give rise to beneficial change. A steady daily practice over time has the potential, when one is drawn to it, to open the heart/mind to more fundamental levels of awareness and knowing.
The Prior offers support and instruction to anyone who wishes to follow this practice. Rev. Jishin Kinson is a disciple of Rev. Master Daishin Morgan, who is abbot of Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey in Northumberland, and the Priory's patron. All activities are explained here on the website and anyone is welcome to participate once they have attended an introduction session at the Priory.
